Manufacturing Engineer

Overview of Position

The Manufacturing Engineer will support the install and operation of our newly purchased Trumpf fiber laser as well as supporting the organization in meeting its Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Efficiency goals.


• A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from a 4-year accredited university or equivalent experience

• Proficiency using Microsoft programs such as Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word are required

• Strong leadership ability and good communication skills

• Ability to work with all functions/members of the organization

• Ability to work in a team setting, as well as individually and demonstrate a positive attitude

• Ability to work flexibly in a dynamic environment

• Understanding of CAD (computer aided drafting) software

• Previous experience working with CNC programming and nesting strategy

• Experience working with Trumpf specific software (TruTops Boost) preferred or willing to travel for training

General Job Responsibilities

• Lead the change from our current plasma operation as we transition to utilizing our new laser

• Work with Fabrication Supervisor to prioritize insourcing parts list

• Improving manufacturing processes by analyzing cell layouts, process flow diagrams, spaghetti diagrams and implementing waste reduction projects

• Provide and present decision-making data by calculating labor, material and overhead costs utilizing estimation tools and validating actuals

• Review of bill of manufacturing costs on new and existing products

• Design and/or design management of new product weld, assembly and work holding fixturing

• Develop, present and obtain approval of business cases for Capital Requests

• Rebalance product lines to optimize throughput and minimize manufacturing waste

• Assist the design group in developing products for ease of manufacturing

• Use of CAD (computer aided drafting) for solution development

• Responsible to stay abreast of latest technological advancements to allow for development of innovative product designs to gain competitive market advantages for Harper

• Generate work instructions, train operators for new or improved processes

• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

• Manage Continuous Improvement projects from conception to completion

• Stand for extended periods of time

• Sit for extended periods of time

• Lift 50lbs
